Educating to Empower: Scientologists and Citizens Unite in France’s Drug Prevention Movement

This past weekend, a wave of grassroots activism swept across France, bringing vital drug education materials to thousands. Volunteers from multiple regions united under the banner of the Foundation for a Drug-Free World, distributing over 19,000 booklets in cities such as Lyon, Murol, Saint-Jean-de-Luz, and Le Touquet.

The campaign, known globally as “The Truth About Drugs”, is a flagship initiative supported by members of health the Church of Scientology and inspired by the humanitarian work of L. Ron Hubbard.

This guiding principle fuels the campaign’s mission: to educate youth and communities with factual, non-judgmental information so they can make informed decisions and lead drug-free lives.

The response on the ground was remarkable. Store owners welcomed the materials, educators committed to sharing them in schools, and families stopped to ask how they could get involved. A primary school facilitator even offered to bring the campaign into schools in Marseille, while a children’s art teacher proposed partnering during local summer festivals.

The Foundation for a Drug-Free World has distributed millions of booklets worldwide, and its program includes free online courses, video PSAs, and educator kits that are secular and evidence-based—making them accessible to all communities.

This growing movement is not only confronting the drug crisis—it is offering real hope and practical solutions. As Ivan Arjona Pelado, European representative of Scientology, said:

“We can’t win the battle against drug abuse by punishing alone. Education is our best weapon. We bring facts. We inspire change. And we say, without apology: Yes to life, no to drugs.”
